Keyboard Grab Control

With the latest release of 24.10, you can easily switch keyboard that is used in an HP Anyware session to your local OS. This allows users to navigate the local OS while still in the HP Anyware session.

This feature allows you to access local operating system shortcuts without disrupting your workflow.

Keyboard Grab Behavior

  • While the Anyware Client is in focus, all keyboard inputs, with the exception of some system-level combinations such as Ctrl+Alt+Del will be grabbed by the Anyware session and not be available to the local operating system.

  • With the new keyboard grab control feature, you can switch focus away from the Anyware Client (for example, to open the local Start menu or switch to other applications on the local OS). The keyboard grab will pause for the session, and all keys will become available to the local OS and other local applications.

  • When the focus returns to the Anyware Client, all keyboard inputs will be grabbed again for the session, sending the keystrokes to the remote OS.

Switching Keyboard to Local OS

Keyboard Grab can be disabled in one of the two ways:

  • Press the Windows+Esc hot-key combination, or

  • Under the Connection menu, click Disable Keyboard Grab.

Once the keyboard Grab is disabled keystrokes will not be sent to the remote session and will become available to the local OS.

Example Use:

Press Windows+Esc and then use Alt+Tab to switch between local applications.

Returning Keyboard to Anyware Session

If you have switched to another local application, returning to the Anyware Client will resume grabbing all keystrokes for the session.

If you have not changed focus to another application, opening or clicking the Anyware Client window or menu bar will restore focus to the application, and resume grabbing keystrokes for the session.

Disabling Keyboard Grab Hotkey

Sometimes, the hotkey used to switch keyboard grab to the local OS (Windows+Esc) might interfere with other software you are using in-session. If this happens, turn off the keyboard grab hotkey setting. In this scenario, you can still use the Disable Keyboard Grab option in the Connection menu in order to navigate to the local OS.

To toggle the activation of the Win+Esc keyboard Grab Hotkey:

  1. Launch the Anyware Client.

  2. Click the Settings icon in the top-left corner.

  3. Under Anyware Client | Settings, click Keyboard.

  4. Click the Keyboard Grab Hotkey toggle.
