Why is the image quality reduced for a couple seconds right after a session is connected?
This is expected behaviour during the first couple seconds when a PCoIP session is established and is caused by the PCoIP device's bandwidth management algorithm. The algorithm continuously optimizes the amount of network traffic a PCoIP device generates based on the estimated network bandwidth available. When a PCoIP session is first connected, the amount of estimated network bandwidth starts low and begins to ramp up as necessary. The algorithm sets the initial estimated bandwidth limit to approx 9 Mbps or the bandwidth floor, whichever is the higher. The estimated bandwidth limit will increase as required when there is no packet loss or high latency experienced. Because the bandwidth limit is initially set to a low value and slowly ramps up, the imaging algorithm reduces image quality and frame rate to compensate, which results in the image quality being reduced during the first couple seconds.
If a high quality image is required at session connection, ensure there is guaranteed network bandwidth available and set the bandwidth floor to match the guaranteed network bandwidth value. The floor setting tells the PCoIP network algorithm that the guaranteed bandwidth is ways availalbe and will use it when required.
