What types of USB devices are supported in Linux with the PCoIP Remote Workstation Card?
The Tera2 PCoIP Remote Workstation Card presents a Open Host Controller Interface (OHCI) and Enhanced Host Controller Interface (EHCI), supporting the USB 1.0 and USB 2.0 specifications respectively, via the PCIe 1x connector to the motherboard. If is up to the operating system to enumerate these host controllers and supply the drivers. Most modern operating systems will have no issue with this.
Human Interface Device (HID) mice and keyboards are supported in Linux. Other USB devices may be fully functional as well but customers will need to test to verify. There are a number customers using devices such as Wacom tablets with Linux.
When a USB device is plugged into a PCoIP Zero Client that is connected to a PCoIP Remote Workstation, the device is bridged to the workstation host by default. These devices appear as USB devices directly connected to the OHCI and EHCI controllers just as if the device was plugged into one of the USB ports on the physical workstation. The manufacturer supplied driver for the USB device should work at this stage.
Note: HP Anyware has found that some USB devices are particularly sensitive to the extra latency added to the USB connection by the network and will not function correctly. This has even been experienced in a batch of the same devices and between revisions of other devices. For this reason we cannot say for any certainty a USB device will work. HP Anyware recommends that each USB device is tested in the environment it will be used in for functionality and compatibility.
