What are the latency requirements for PCoIP?
PCoIP protocol itself is not sensitive to network latency, however network latency can impact the user experience.
The network latency supported by products implementing PCoIP technology depends on the PCoIP host technology being used:
- PCoIP Remote Workstation Cards (host cards) support up to 250 ms of round-trip network latency
- PCoIP Agent in HP Anyware support up to 250 ms of round-trip network latency
- PCoIP Agent in Amazon Workspaces support up to 250 ms of round-trip network latency
- PCoIP software in VMware View support up to 250 ms of round-trip network latency
Note: These are not limits of PCoIP technology, rather these are the latencies that have been formally tested. Additional quality assurance testing could enable support beyond these latencies. Some customers have reported successful environments running at greater latency however, as the latency increases about 100 ms most people start to notice the lag between the input and screen updates. When running PCoIP sessions over higher latency link, it is very important to keep the latency as consistent as possible and minimise the jitter.
PCoIP Clients incorporate local cursor technology to mitigate the effect of network latency. Local cursor capability can be used with PCoIP Remote Workstation Cards using firmware 2.x or newer and the PCoIP Host Software.
To measure your network latency: Perform a ping test with a packet size of about 1400 bytes

View the round trip latency session statistics in the OSD using the PCoIP Zero Client
